How does rectal irrigation help?

Rectal irrigation is a safe and effective way to manage symptoms of constipation and faecal incontinence of varying aetiologies.

With effective emptying of the rectum and colon episodes of faecal incontinence can be prevented for up to 48 hours (Emmanuel, 2013).

For constipation regular evacuation of the rectosigmoid colon can promote transport through the entire colon and therefore prevent blockages and faecal loading.

Certain conditions respond well to low volume rectal irrigation and others to high volume irrigation. You might find our Decision Guide helpful.
